The Super-Italie tower rises three hundred and eighty feet above the thirteenth arrondissement as a jagged, white concrete cylinder. Completed in nineteen seventy-four, it stands as the tallest residential building in Paris proper. Architect Maurice Novarina designed it to house nearly five hundred apartments, aiming to pack a dense population into a vertical footprint. During construction, workers lifted the massive concrete slabs into place with a specialized crane system that locals watched from their windows for months, tracking the tower as it climbed.
