Square des Épinettes

The Square des Épinettes is defined by the heavy, ornate cast-iron railings that enclose its greenery, separating the quiet park from the bustling streets of the seventeenth arrondissement. Before the current layout arrived in eighteen sixty-three, this ground served as the site of a small village known as Les Épinettes. Residents used to gather here to trade farm goods, but as Paris expanded, city planners cleared the rural stalls to provide a permanent space for leisure and light among the growing city blocks.
