Maison du Peuple (Clichy)

monument

The Maison du Peuple in Clichy is a landmark of modernist engineering constructed between nineteen thirty-five and nineteen thirty-nine. It was built as a multifunctional space to serve the local working-class community under the socialist and communist leadership of the era. The building served as a covered market on its ground floor during the week, but its clever mechanical design allowed it to transform into a massive hall for political meetings, films, and cultural festivities on weekends.
