Maison du Peuple (Clichy)

The Maison du Peuple in Clichy features a steel frame skeleton wrapped in glass and metal panels. Completed in nineteen thirty-nine, architects Eugène Beaudouin, Marcel Lods, and engineer Vladimir Bodiansky designed it as a multifunctional center for the local workforce. The floor plates and walls move on rollers, allowing the building to shift from an open-air market into a theater or a lecture hall. When the Spanish Civil War broke out, organizers used the site to coordinate relief efforts for refugees.
