Musée de Montmartre

The Musée de Montmartre sits behind the Rue Cortot in a cluster of seventeenth-century buildings that once housed a bohemian colony of painters. Renoir lived and worked here for two years, and the swing in his famous painting, Bal du moulin de la Galette, was installed in the property’s garden. It remains a rare, quiet pocket of the neighborhood, surrounded by the only remaining vines on the hill. The house holds his sketches and the neighborhood’s original cabaret posters from the eighteen nineties.
