Paule Minck Garden

The Paule Minck Garden is a small green space marked by a mural of a woman in a nineteenth-century dress, her hand raised as if addressing a crowd. Paule Minck was a feminist and socialist activist who lived nearby. During the eighteen seventy-one Paris Commune, she organized soup kitchens and schools for the working poor of this neighborhood. The garden commemorates her years of political agitation in Belleville, where she spoke at street corners and halls until the police hauled her away.
