Hôtel de Jarnac

historic

The Hotel de Jarnac features a distinctive curved facade that creates a subtle, rhythmic break in the straight line of the street. Built in seventeen seventy-three by the architect Pierre Desmaisons, this private mansion became famous for a duel. The owner, the Chevalier de Jarnac, fought a celebrated sword fight here against a courtier named La Châtaigneraie in fifteen forty-seven, though the house itself was constructed long after the event to commemorate the family name and their claim to a royal favor.
