Hôtel de Langeac

The Hôtel de Langeac sits at the corner of rue de Berri and the Champs-Elysees, distinguished by its curved facade that once followed the street line. Thomas Jefferson lived here while serving as the American minister to France in the late seventeen eighties. He famously complained about the cold drafts in the drafty rooms, but he adored the neighborhood for its proximity to the city and the countryside. When he left, he packed his carriage with crates of furniture and books, leaving the townhouse behind.
