A bronze statue of Hector Berlioz stands in the center of this small square, hand tucked into his coat, staring toward the conservatory where he studied. Before the square became a public park in eighteen eighty-six, the site served as the backyard for the Saint-Trinité church. Locals often pushed through the iron gates to find a quiet space away from the traffic of the ninth arrondissement. The sculptor Alfred-Charles Lenoir cast the figure, capturing the composer in a moment of intense, quiet contemplation.
