Jardin Marguerite Boucicaut

park garden

The Jardin Marguerite Boucicaut stands on the site of a former hospital that bore the same name. Marguerite Boucicaut was a nineteenth-century businesswoman and philanthropist who co-founded the world's first modern department store, Le Bon Marché. When she passed away, she bequeathed a vast fortune to the city of Paris with the specific mandate to construct a hospital that would provide medical care for her employees and their families. This green space now occupies the heart of the redeveloped grounds where that hospital once served the community.
