Lourmel station

other

Lourmel station serves as a gateway to the Javel neighborhood, a district that was defined for decades by the heavy industry of the Citroen car factories. When the station opened in July 1937, it extended line eight into this evolving landscape, connecting a formerly industrial zone to the wider reaches of Paris. Its name, and the street above it, honors General Frederic Henri Le Normand de Lourmel, a soldier who rose through the ranks in Algeria before falling in the heat of the Crimean War at the Battle of Inkerman in 1854.
