Pablo-Casals Square

This square honors Pablo Casals, the celebrated cellist and conductor who spent a significant portion of his life in France as a form of political protest. Born in Catalonia, Casals vowed to never return to his homeland while the dictatorship of Francisco Franco remained in power, choosing instead to live in the French village of Prades. His commitment to peace and human rights was so steadfast that he frequently refused to perform in countries that maintained diplomatic relations with the Franco regime.
