The Galerie Louise Leiris occupies a discreet space on the Rue de Monceau, marked by a simple, unassuming storefront that gives little away. Daniel-Henry Kahnweiler opened this gallery in nineteen twenty after his previous business was seized during the First World War. He used the gallery to champion Cubist painters like Picasso and Braque when their work remained widely misunderstood by the public. Louise Leiris, Kahnweiler's niece, eventually took over the business and gave it her name, keeping the avant-garde spirit alive.
