Allées Jacques Brel

The Allées Jacques Brel cuts through the Parc de la Villette as a wide, paved pedestrian spine marked by a double row of linden trees. While the park is famous for Bernard Tschumi's red deconstructivist structures, this path follows the historical route of the old slaughterhouse cattle pens. In the nineteen seventies, planners faced a wasteland of industrial decay here. They paved this artery to link the city to the park, naming it for the singer whose voice once captured the melancholy of these streets.
