La Rotonde du Parc Monceau

The Rotonde de la Villette sits at the edge of the Parc Monceau, easily identified by its distinctive circular drum and flat, saucer-like dome. It served as one of the tax barriers for the Wall of the Farmers-General, a massive perimeter fence constructed in the seventeen eighties to collect duties on goods entering Paris. When the architect Claude-Nicolas Ledoux designed it, residents hated the wall so much they eventually burned the tollhouse down during the French Revolution, leaving only the stone shell standing.
