Jardin Rachmaninov

The Jardin Rachmaninov is a modern urban oasis in the eighteenth arrondissement, designed by landscape architect Kathryn Gustafson and opened in the early nineteen nineties. Covering over five thousand square meters, the garden features a deliberate interplay of curved pathways and gentle slopes that create a natural, quiet atmosphere in a formerly industrial district. A central feature of the space is a large basin surrounded by terraced seating where a small stream trickles through the greenery. The park is home to a diverse collection of rare plant species, including the snake bark maple and black tupelo, which were chosen to emphasize a rich, varied palette of textures and colors. This garden represents an intentional effort to reintroduce green space into a neighborhood once defined by its heavy railway infrastructure.
