The Square de la Salamandre features a mosaic of smooth, river-worn stones that snake through its center like a winding path. This small urban garden occupies what used to be a cluster of narrow, decaying alleyways before the neighborhood underwent a major overhaul in the nineteen seventies. Designers chose to keep the irregular, tight geometry of those former streets, trapping that older layout within the current garden walls. Residents here still navigate the incline exactly as people did before the houses fell.
