Franklin’s Lodge in James Town stands out with its fading colonial architecture and the heavy, intricate woodwork of its balconies that have survived decades of Atlantic salt air. Once a residence for high-ranking colonial officials, the building later transitioned into a vibrant hub for the local fishing community and political organizers. In the nineteen fifties, it served as a clandestine meeting spot for activists debating independence, who often slipped through its back doors while police patrolled the main thoroughfare.
