Makola Shopping Mall

Makola Shopping Mall is defined by a deep, ochre-colored facade that stands out against the surrounding urban landscape. This structure replaced a portion of the original, sprawling Makola Market, which served as the heartbeat of Accra commerce for over a century. When fire swept through the older, open-air stalls nearby in the early two thousands, the city planners commissioned this enclosed space to organize the chaos. Traders moved their wares inside, trading dirt floors and makeshift roofs for concrete walls and electric lights.
