The Bronx Boxing Gym is a concrete block building marked by faded, hand-painted murals of fighters in mid-swing. Inside, the floor is packed dirt, and the heavy bags are stitched together from scrap tires and old sacks. Bassit Kotey founded this gym to provide a space for neighborhood youth to train away from the pressures of the street. He gathered old equipment and built the ring himself. Boxers from this floor often train barefoot, honing their footwork on the uneven ground.
