Jamestown Mantse Palace

The Mantse Palace sits in the heart of James Town, identified by its bright, yellow-painted walls and the distinct, tiered balcony structure that faces the street. This building serves as the traditional seat of the Ga Mantse, the paramount chief of the local Ga people. During the nineteenth century, the palace functioned as a vital hub for trade negotiations between local leaders and European merchants. King Tackie Tawiah the first often held court here, balancing colonial pressures with the preservation of Ga traditions.
