Sunderwala Burj

Sunderwala Burj stands apart from the surrounding zoo enclosures as a striking, octagonal sandstone tomb topped with a high dome. Built during the early sixteenth century, the structure features intricate stone carvings and arched entrances that have survived centuries of neglect. Legend says the tomb was commissioned for a nobleman named Sunder Das, who served in the court of the Mughal emperor. Restoration crews once found traces of blue glazed tiles embedded in the masonry, suggesting the exterior was originally quite vibrant.
