Hazrat Nizamuddin Dargah Baoli

historic

The Nizamuddin Baoli is a rectangular stone stepwell that holds water even seven centuries after its construction. Sultan Ghiyath al-Din Tughluq once halted the building of his own fortress to ensure laborers could finish this tank for the Sufi saint Nizamuddin Auliya. When the Sultan forbade the laborers from working on the shrine, the saint allegedly lit the lamps with water from the well. The water remains in the basin, darkened by age and surrounded by narrow, tiered masonry walls.
