Ataga khan tomb

The Ataga Khan tomb wears a facade of red sandstone intricately inlaid with white and black marble. Built in fifteen sixty-six, this square pavilion honors the foster father of the Emperor Akbar. Ataga Khan was a powerful nobleman who met a violent end at the hands of a rival courtier in the palace. His wife, Haji Begum, commissioned this structure to serve as his final resting place. The tomb keeps its secrets in the stonework, displaying verses from the Quran carved with precision.
