Assi Ghat

Assi Ghat features a broad, stone-stepped riverfront where the Assi River meets the Ganges. Pilgrims gather here at dawn to bathe and perform rituals, as this spot marks the southernmost of the primary ghats in Varanasi. Decades ago, the poet Tulsidas sat on these steps to compose the Ramcharitmanas, his retelling of the Ramayana. He chose this precise location because he believed the water here held a special sanctity. Today, people still recite his verses while facing the morning sun.
