The Akhara Swaminath sits behind a high, weathered wall marked by a prominent, colorful mural of wrestlers grappling in the traditional style. This Akhara operates as a gymnasium and training ground for Pehlwani, the ancient Indian form of wrestling. While many such institutions in Varanasi have vanished, this site remains a dedicated space where mud pits, or akharas, serve as the training floor. Young men still gather here each dawn to coat their bodies in sacred soil and hone their strength.
