A bright yellow facade with arched windows marks the Kanchi Kamakoti Peetham on the narrow lanes of Bangali Tola. This building serves as a permanent outpost for the Shankaracharya of Kanchi, a major spiritual seat from southern India. It functions as a rest house and center for scholars visiting the city to study Sanskrit and traditional rituals. When the former head of the monastery, Chandrashekarendra Saraswati, stayed here in the nineteen thirties, he insisted on maintaining a simple life despite the grand tradition.
