Man Mandir Ghat, (Varanasi)

Man Mandir Ghat displays an ornate stone balcony projecting directly over the Ganges, a feature salvaged from the seventeenth-century palace built here by Raja Man Singh of Amber. The structure serves as an early example of Rajput architecture in Varanasi, contrasting with the simpler stairs of its neighbors. In seventeen thirty-four, Sawai Jai Singh the Second transformed the palace roof into an astronomical observatory. He installed large stone instruments to track celestial movements, which remain perched on the high terrace today.
