Prachin Hanuman Ghat

Prachin Hanuman Ghat features a heavy stone statue of Hanuman tucked into a small shrine at the water’s edge. While most ghats in Varanasi honor Shiva, this one centers on the devotion of Tulsidas, the sixteenth-century poet who wrote the Ramcharitmanas. He supposedly established this site to provide a place for wrestlers and devotees to pray. The stone steps stay slick with river water, and the air carries the scent of marigolds and incense burned by worshippers daily.
