Mea Shearim Talmud Torah

The Meah Shearim Talmud Torah features a stone facade with tall, narrow arched windows that face inward toward the neighborhood’s tight maze of alleyways. Founded in the late nineteenth century, it served as the original educational anchor for the first residents who moved outside the Old City walls. The school building famously refused to adopt modern Hebrew during the language wars of the early twentieth century, keeping Yiddish as the primary tongue for its students even as others integrated secular studies into their curriculum.
