הרובע ההרודיאני - The Wohl Archaeological Museum

Deep below the modern street level of the Jewish Quarter lies a collection of six distinct villas preserved under a concrete roof. These homes belonged to the priestly families of Jerusalem two thousand years ago, during the reign of Herod the Great. When the Roman legions burned the city in seventy CE, the intense heat and collapsing stone ceilings sealed these rooms, trapping intact floors of multicolored mosaic, frescoed walls, and even a ritual bath, or mikvah, used by the wealthy residents.
