Museum of The Underground Prisoners

The Museum of the Underground Prisoners occupies a stone fortress surrounded by a high perimeter wall in the Morasha neighborhood. During the British Mandate, this site served as the Jerusalem Central Prison. In nineteen forty-seven, Irgun fighters tunneled through the wall of a nearby house, using explosives to blast through the prison defenses. Twelve prisoners escaped in the confusion, while the British guards captured others. Today, the cells retain original bars and inscriptions left by the inmates who spent their final nights here.
