Beit Aghion

Beit Aghion sits on a corner in the Talbiyeh neighborhood, distinguished by its high stone walls and the heavy iron gate that shields it from the street. It was built in the late nineteen thirties for Benjamin Aghion, a Jewish merchant from Egypt, who commissioned the architect Richard Kauffmann to create a home blending traditional Jerusalem stone with modernist lines. Since nineteen seventy-four, it has functioned as the official residence of the Prime Minister of Israel, housing a succession of the country's leaders.
