Ohel Moshe

The Ohel Moshe neighborhood stands out for its high, arched stone entrance gate inscribed with the name of the philanthropist who funded it. Built in eighteen eighty-two, this was one of the first residential quarters established outside the Old City walls. The houses were constructed with shared courtyards and central cisterns to encourage a communal way of life. Yitzhak Navon, the fifth president of Israel, spent his childhood here, documenting the daily rituals of the residents in his writings.
