Parroquia de la Santísima Trinidad

The Parroquia de la Santisima Trinidad stands out with a heavy, Churrigueresque facade carved from dark red tezontle stone, dominated by a towering stone relief of the Holy Trinity. Built in the mid-eighteenth century for the Confraternity of the Most Holy Trinity, it served the Spanish elite living in this corner of the city. During the construction, the soft, swampy soil of Mexico City caused the heavy stone structure to settle unevenly, forcing architects to reinforce the foundation repeatedly to keep the walls upright.
