Skinny Bridge

The Magere Brug, or Skinny Bridge, stretches across the Amstel River with a distinct white wooden frame and scores of golden lightbulbs. Its narrow profile dates back to sixteen seventy, when the original crossing was so tight that two people could barely pass each other. Legend says two wealthy sisters living on opposite banks commissioned the bridge to visit more easily. Whether the sisters existed remains a debate, but the bridge endures as one of the few wooden drawbridges remaining in Amsterdam.
