Dom Handlowy Kameleon

The Dom Handlowy Kameleon features rounded glass corners that curve sharply against the skyline of Ulica Szewska. Erich Mendelsohn designed this building in nineteen twenty-seven as a department store for the Petersdorff company. He wanted the structure to handle the constant flow of shoppers, so he anchored the exterior with a reinforced concrete frame. During the siege of Breslau in nineteen forty-five, the building lost most of its glass and interior fittings, yet the original concrete skeleton held steady through the fire.
