Aarebrücke

The Aarebrücke is a steel truss bridge spanning the Aare River with a distinct, riveted industrial skeleton that separates the center of Interlaken from the railway station district. Engineers completed this structure in nineteen hundred and ten to handle the surge of traffic brought by the burgeoning Grand Hotel era. When the first heavy carriages crossed, the town council worried the metal frame would ruin the alpine view, but the bridge held fast while the wood bridges it replaced often washed away in floods.
