Hotel Interlaken

The Hotel Interlaken features a stark white facade and heavy green shutters, a style that has defined this corner since the middle of the fourteenth century. It began as a guest house for the neighboring Augustinian monastery, serving monks and weary pilgrims crossing the Alps. When the monastery dissolved during the Reformation, the building transitioned into a tavern. Lord Byron famously stayed here in eighteen sixteen, scribbling his impressions of the Bernese Oberland into the hotel register, which remains tucked away in the archives.
