The Kraftwerke Mühle in Unterseen features a prominent, red-tiled roof and heavy timber framing that stands out against the fast-flowing Aare River. Built in the late nineteenth century, this facility harnessed the water power that drove the local sawmill and flour production for generations. Hans Abplanalp, a local mill operator, pushed to install turbines here in eighteen ninety-four to bring electricity to the village. The heavy iron water gates still control the river flow, continuing their work long after the milling ceased.
