Garret Hostel Bridge

The Garret Hostel Bridge spans the River Cam with a distinctive, single-arch design made of cast iron. Students at Trinity College often call it the Orgasm Bridge. This nickname originated in the nineteen sixties, when the bridge’s steep, humped profile forced cyclists to pedal hard to reach the top, only to experience a sudden, breathless release of momentum as they coasted down the other side. The current structure is the fourth one to occupy this crossing since the seventeenth century.
