Michaelhouse Cafe

The Michaelhouse Cafe occupies the former chancel of Saint Michael’s Church, a fourteenth-century stone building that stopped hosting regular services in the nineteen-sixties. While the rest of the structure serves as a center for arts and outreach, the cafe retains the high, vaulted ceilings and stained glass windows of the original parish church. In nineteen-seventy-three, the building faced a threat of demolition, but a local campaign succeeded in keeping the medieval shell intact for public use.
