The Pitt Club on Jesus Lane wears a distinct, heavy facade of yellow brick and limestone, easily identified by the stone coat of arms carved above its entrance. It functions as a private gentleman’s club for University of Cambridge students. In the eighteen eighties, a young King Edward the Seventh joined this club while he studied at Trinity College. He broke house rules by smoking in the drawing room, but the members simply voted to rescind the prohibition rather than discipline the future king.
