The Pitt Building

The Pitt Building features a grand gothic tower that mimics the appearance of a medieval gatehouse, complete with pinnacles and ornate stone carvings. It was constructed in the eighteen thirties as the new headquarters for the Cambridge University Press. The building serves as a memorial to William Pitt the Younger, who served as Prime Minister during the Napoleonic Wars. When funds remained after his statue was erected in London, the university used the balance to build this stone facade to house their printing operations.
