St Hilda's East Community Centre

St Hilda's East Community Centre stands as a legacy of the settlement movement, which began in the late nineteenth century as a response to the crushing urban poverty of the Industrial Revolution. It was founded in eighteen eighty-nine by the Guild of Cheltenham Ladies' College. The original idea was for women from more affluent backgrounds to move into the heart of the East End, living and working directly among the local population to offer support and education.
