Old Red Lion, Kennington

The Old Red Lion on Kennington Park Road presents a deliberate illusion of age. While it carries a heritage dating back to a tavern established on this site around 1750, the structure you see today is a product of the early twentieth century. It was rebuilt in 1933 by the brewery firm Hoare and Company. The architect, Sydney C. Clark, utilized a style known as Brewers Tudor to give the building its distinct, storybook appearance. This design choice was part of a broader inter-war movement intended to provide a sense of traditional comfort and domestic familiarity to the modern public house.
