Arnold Circus

You are standing in the center of the Boundary Estate, which holds the distinction of being Britain’s first municipal housing project. This entire circular space is built atop a massive mound of rubble. When the local government cleared the notorious Old Nichol slum in the eighteen nineties, they did not haul away the debris of the thousands of demolished homes. Instead, they piled it all here to create a raised foundation for this park and its bandstand, quite literally building the new world on top of the ruins of the old one.
