Elephant Park stands on land that was formerly occupied by the Heygate Estate, a sprawling residential complex completed in the mid-nineteen seventies. That estate, known for its distinct brutalist architecture and elevated pedestrian walkways, was eventually demolished to make way for this modern, green-focused neighborhood. The transition marks a complete shift in local urban planning, moving from high-density slab blocks designed for a car-centric era to an environment prioritizing public spaces and environmental sustainability.
