Elephant Springs

park garden

Elephant Springs is a landscape sculpture made of six hundred slabs of porphyry stone, an igneous rock formed two hundred and thirty million years ago. These stones were sourced from a family-owned quarry in the Albiano region of northern Italy. Before they were shipped to London, each individual block was recorded using global positioning satellite technology so that the exact layout could be perfectly reconstructed on site. A team of skilled stonemasons hand-laid the rocks to ensure the water channels and pools achieved millimetre-perfect precision.
