Ulster Hall

Ulster Hall features a grand Victorian facade of red brick and sandstone, distinguished by the massive, carved stone heads of Mozart, Beethoven, and Mendelssohn staring down from the arches. Built in eighteen sixty-two to provide the city with a proper assembly room, it served as a venue for dances, political rallies, and classical concerts. When the hall opened, the acoustics were so poor that workers had to install a heavy, velvet canopy over the stage to stop the sound from vanishing into the roof.
