The red brick facade of St George’s Market features heavy stone arches and a distinctive wrought iron canopy that stretches over the sidewalk. Built between eighteen ninety and eighteen ninety-six, it serves as the last surviving Victorian covered market in Belfast. During the Second World War, the building functioned as a mortuary after the German air raids on the city. Today, the stalls hold butchers, fishmongers, and craft sellers, keeping the original purpose of the grand hall alive under its arched glass roof.
